The success of the Prostitution Bill, which aims to ban prostitutes and brothels in residential areas, depends on the support of either Fremantle MP Adele Carles or member for Alfred Cove Janet Woollard, after the Labor Party and two Liberal MPs declared they would vote against it.

Yesterday both women released their own proposed amendments, which they said must be included if they were to support the laws.

Dr Woollard is demanding a sunset clause which would see all brothels banned within five years of the laws coming into effect.

She will meet with Mr Porter today to discuss her proposal, which also includes a cap on the number of licensed brothels, the number of rooms and the number of prostitutes.

Ms Carles’ amendments would move the laws towards a model used in Sweden, and shift the criminal focus from women in prostitution to the clients.

The changes would also impose jail terms on brothel owners who employed children and require the state government to spend $5 million establishing a women’s shelter.

Both independents will also canvas their ideas to Liberal MPs Peter Abetz and Graeme Jacobs, who have indicated they will cross the floor over the current laws.

“If I can get (Mr Abetz and Mr Jacobs) to come on board and support me, there’s a good chance the Attorney General will also accept these proposals,” Dr Woollard said.

Dr Woollard said both sets of amendments would work well together.

Ms Carles said her changes would support women who want to exit the industry.

“There is an opportunity here to help women move out of the sex work industry through a properly funded shelter with support services,” she said.

“This is an industry that makes money out of the sale of women’s bodies for men’s sexual gratification and often involves violence and long term physical, psychological and emotional harm to women.” Ms Carles said.

Attorney General Christian Porter said he would give consideration to the proposals, and was particularly interested in the idea of a women’s shelter.

“Our ultimate aim with this legislation has been to ensure police can respond to public complaints and close down prostitution businesses in residential areas, and we are willing to consider any amendments which are in harmony with these fundamental objectives,” he said.

The crackdown on the suburban sex industry has been in the works for several years, and the government has already had to amend the laws to appease opponents.

In November, Attorney General Christian Porter agreed to financially support sex workers leaving the industry and backed away from requiring they all be registered.

Under the changes, an “exit program” would be established to use revenue from licensing fees, fines and confiscated property for education and counselling services to assist workers leaving the industry.

Over the past few years, it seems almost impossible to even take a trip to the grocery store without bumping into dozens of QR codes – those square graphics that can be scanned with a smartphone camera to bring up all sorts of information. Now it appears a Seattle-based organization has found another place to put them: in your pants. In hopes of promoting safe sex, Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest distributed 55,000 condoms with QR codes that track when and where people make the beast with two backs through their website, WhereDidYouWearIt.com.

Mixing sex and Foursquare-like technology may seem a bit questionable, but the goal is to encourage condom usage and prevent STDs and unplanned pregnancies. The idea is to show that using condoms is commonplace and not something to be nervous about. Planned Parenthood has stated that it is definitely not trying to encourage or discourage sexual activity, only ensure that it is practiced safely.

Scanning the barcode on the condom wrapper will let a person upload their approximate location and a generalized, anonymous description of their *ahem* experience to the website. Each of these is tracked on a map at WhereDidYouWearIt.com, so anyone can see just how many people are using protection.

The website assures users that their exact address will not be shown; only a general area nearby. People are also only able to give sparse details in their descriptions by filling out a form that is then pieced together (for example, “A 20 something girl and a guy whose relationship is all about love and have already talked about safer sex and STDs used a condom in the bedroom with another birth control method.”) Users can however rank their dirty deeds on a scale from “things can only improve from here” to “ah-maz-ing – rainbows exploded and mountains trembled.”

It is quite often said that women are turned off men because of….

Women with women are great and men & men but do we have a culture of rejection that predisposes some to go gay for the wrong reasons and circumstances??

Forget condoms and vasectomies — scientists have found a simple contraceptive procedure for men that could be a painless and less expensive alternative to surgery.

Just two 15-minute ultrasound treatments could provide months of protection against pregnancy, according to researchers at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in the US.

The research, led by Dr James Tsuruta in the Department of Paediatrics, confirmed the positive contraceptive results of ultrasound, which lasted more than two and a half months when tested on lab rats.

Therapeutic ultrasound is usually used to relieve muscle pain and increase circulation to joints, which works through gently heating the area it is applied to.

To produce sperm, the testicular region needs to be slightly cooler than the rest of the body, and when ultrasound is applied to that area, it warms the testes to a temperature in which the sperm is no longer able to survive.

The use of ultrasound treatments as a possible contraceptive was first tested over 35 years ago, but the research did not garner viable results and was not taken seriously.

Now, thanks to Dr Tsuruta’s new research, the procedure is regaining momentum among medical circles.

“Sperm production is very robust; this ensures the survival of a species,” said Dr Tsuruta. “It’s really difficult to find a way to turn off the production of sperm, but ultrasound seems to do the trick… it caused 10-times lower sperm counts than just applying heat.”

Studies have also been made into the effects of ultrasound on other species, including on dogs by scientists in Italy, and on monkeys (the closest animal to human beings genetically) by researchers at the University of California-Davis in the US.

The UC-Davis team found that three 30-minute sessions could prevent fertility from returning in monkeys for approximately six weeks, and also proved that the treatments could effectively be reversed.

Ultrasound equipment is already widely used by doctors and physiotherapists around the world, making it a procedure easy to administer by non-physicians.

Further research still needs to be conducted, and there are a number of concerns about safety, effectiveness and the rate at which the method wears out over a period of time, but some experts believe it is a course worth pursuing.

Elaine Lissner, director of the Male Contraception Information Project (MCIP), a not-for-profit organisation in the US, spoke positively about the procedure, saying:

“It would be the first truly new male contraceptive in over a century,” she said, “and would be one of the only contraceptive leads out there that has so few access issues, being based on equipment already in medical offices all over the world.

“We think it’s worth giving it a chance.”

A popular “meat-market” smartphone app that spawned a sexual revolution in Australia’s gay community has been compromised by a Sydney hacker, potentially exposing intimate personal chats, explicit photos and private information of users.

The location-aware Grindr app enables gay men to meet other gay men who may be just metres away, making use of their smartphone’s Global Positioning System (GPS). It had about 100,000 Australian users as of August last year and more than one million users worldwide.

Now a hacker has pushed the app developer into a security crisis that has left its users seriously vulnerable considering the vast amounts of private information traded through the app – in many cases naked photos.

The hacker discovered a way to log in as another user, impersonate that user, chat and send photos on their behalf.

The vulnerabilities are also present in Blendr, the straight version of the app, according to a security expert who said both apps had “no real security” and were “poorly designed”. Fairfax Media is not aware that Blendr has been hacked but the potential was there, according to the security expert.

The founder of the apps, Joel Simkhai, conceded both were vulnerable and he was rushing to release a patch to address the issues. He said he had originally been waiting until new architecture was built “within weeks” but was now releasing an update to both apps “over the next few days”.

In a telephone interview about the vulnerabilities last Friday he said it was news to him about the potential for text chats to be monitored and claimed the company had never experienced a “major breach” in which a large portion of users were affected.

“We [do] get people trying to hack into our servers,” he said. “That’s something that I am aware of and we certainly have a team in place that are working to prevent that.”

But by Tuesday Mr Simkhai admitted that he was “aware of some vulnerabilities” but he would not talk about them in detail to avoid a hacker exploiting them.

“We are certainly aware of a lot of these vulnerabilities and … they will be fixed as fast as humanly possible,” he said.

He could not say how many people had attempted to take advantage of the vulnerabilities but said a website created by the hacker had exploited some of the flaws in Grindr. That website was shut down after Friday’s interview with Fairfax Media after he sought legal action.

The website, registered on July 14 last year, allowed the hacker to search for any Grindr user regardless of their location, and capitalised on the vulnerabilities to offer other services not designed by the apps.

Material seen by this website suggests that a number of Australian users had their Twitter profiles linked to Grindr profiles on the web page, making it easier to find users.

At one point, according to sources who saw the website before it was taken down, it listed users’ Grindr pseudonyms, passwords, their personal favourites (bookmarked friends) and allowed them to be impersonated, and thus have messages sent and received without their knowledge. At one point, the website also allowed users’ profile pictures to be replaced.

It is understood the hacker changed the profile picture of numerous Sydney Grindr users to explicit images. One user who was targeted confirmed they had been banned due to a perceived terms of service violation.

It is understood the hacker took advantage of the fact the apps used a personalised string of numbers known as a hash, instead of a user name and password, to log in. The hash is exchanged between users’ smartphones so they can communicate with each other but the hacker discovered it could be replaced with another users’ hash to enable the hacker to:

- Log in as any user
- See the user’s favourites
- Change their profile information and profile picture
- Talk to others as the user
- Access pictures sent to the user
- Impersonate a user’s “favourite” and talk to them as a friend

A security expert – who did not wish to be named because he didn’t have Mr Simkhai’s permission to analyse his systems – said that the Grindr and Blendr apps “had no real security”.

They are “very poorly designed … [with] poor session security and authentication”, the expert said.  ”It wouldn’t be too hard to secure this.”

The security expert demonstrated with permission of a user how he could log in as them and take over the app.

In a statement Mr Simkhai said keeping his platform secure from hackers was a “number one priority”.

Using technological means and legal actions his company had “blocked the offending website and hacker”.

“We are diligently monitoring for hacking and we’ve added dedicated IT security specialists to our team,” he said. “In the coming weeks, we’ll be rolling out a major security upgrade to our platform.”

He maintained conversations on the app could not be monitored. “Not only can chat not be monitored, but since we don’t store chat history on our servers there is no way anyone can access all past chat history.”

If users are concerned about their security they can permanently delete their Grindr profile following a number of steps on the company’s website, which involves Grindr manually deleting it through a support request.

Aged women still want sex

Too old for sex??? No such thing — yet that’s what seniors are told every day, especially women.

Let me tell you something ladies: If you’ve got the desire, the ability and a partner, stop reading now and get to work — you’ve got some catching up to do. Because a new study confirms that even women in their 80s can still have sex AND enjoy every minute of it.

In the new study, more than 800 women spilled their sexual secrets. The average age was 67, but the study included women in their 40s as well as women in their 80s.

And guess what? Those women in their 80s may have had sex less frequently — but when they did get busy, they were able to reach orgasm every bit as frequently as the youngest women in the study.

But here’s where it gets interesting: 83 percent of the younger women were sexually active, versus just 13 percent of the oldest… yet only 25 percent of the youngsters said they were “very satisfied,” compared to nearly half of the oldest.

In other words, it’s not the frequency — it’s the quality… and if you’re up there in years, there’s nothing keeping you from some quality sex even if you’re not “doing it” as often as you used to.

In fact, fully half of the oldest women in the study said they had no problems with the basics, including arousal and lubrication. But if you’re a vibrant, sexually active 80-something, I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know.

One of the few female serial killers on record, Aileen Wuornos was a prostitute who murdered at least seven men between 1989 and 1990. Actress Charlize Theron won a Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of Wuornos in the movie Monster.

Wuornos lived a life of abuse and neglect, having a baby at age 15 (who was put up for adoption) and engaging in an incestuous relationship with her brother. She was briefly married and spent time in jail for petty robberies and assault. Eventually she fell in love with a woman and supported them both by turning tricks as a prostitute. During her years of prostitution Wuornos shot and killed seven men who she claimed were trying to harm her during their sex sessions.

Wuornos was arrested in 1991 and confessed to the murders three days later. She was killed by lethal injection in 2002.

Prostitution is commonly known as the world’s oldest profession. Meanwhile police in Tai Pei estimate an 82 -year-old nicknamed “Grandma” to be the oldest living, working prostitute. Chiu went into the business about 40 years ago, after a man she had lived with for two decades died. She stays in the business charging ten or twenty times less than others prostitutes.

Horst Schultz achieved 18 ft 9 in (6 m) with a ‘substantial’ amount of seminal fluid. He also holds the records for the greatest height (12 ft 4in) and the greatest speed of ejaculation, or muzzle velocity, with 42.7mph.
